The
JCMA Women's conference: Daughters of Faith, on 18-20th
Feb 2008.
The 2008 Autumn/Winter JCMA conference
to be held Monday May 26th to Thursday May 29th.
An opportunity to experience three days of Inter-Religious
Dialogue in the contemporary Australian context –
and in the relaxing environment of a conference centre set
overlooking the Yarra Valley in Lower Plenty, 40 minutes
from Central Melbourne. The conference is planned for approximately
45 participants.
Meeting and learning from Jews, Christians and Muslims together,
leads participants towards a deeper understanding of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam in Australia …and new friendships
just come naturally. JCMA will hold this first Women’s
Conference at the Edmund Rice Conference Centre, Lower Plenty,
Victoria. This is a three day, live-in conference in the
relaxing environment of the Amberley non-denominational
conference centre, surrounded by nature, yet within easy
reach of Melbourne.
The opportunity for women’s experience and perspective
in the conversation of faith and hope towards the future
of humanity, and the opportunity to explore ways in which
women make a difference. We encounter one another as people
of faith belonging to one of the three monotheistic Abrahamic
religions. How do we understand this encounter? Why do we
desire it and what do we hope to achieve from it? What limits
do we place on our engagement? How do we use our own sacred
texts to guide us in understanding the other? What paradigms
and models do we employ to make sense of the existence of
the other faiths within the context of our own believing?
As we ask ourselves these questions, we will also listen
to the answers given by the other participants in the conference.
Details of the conference, accommodation, fees, and closing
dates for applications will be found on the leaflet and
application forms (MS Word Application,
MS Word Brochure,Adobe
PDF Application,
Adobe PDF Brochure
). Applicants cannot be guaranteed a place in the conference.
Places will be allocated with a view to having a balance
of Jews, Christians and Muslims. Similarly, places will
be allocated to ensure a balance of laywomen actively involved
in their congregations, clergy, academics from religious
and secular institutions, persons working in community support
roles, and tertiary students, as far as possible. .
