EMPHASES:
The JCMA is about meeting people of our own religion and
others. We hope to understand other faiths (and our own)
more deeply by starting to discover what they mean to other
people who live them. We wish to develop an awareness of
what is true, good and beautiful in faiths other than our
own.
The JCMA endeavors to provide a forum for discussion
based on the following principles:
1. The JCMA is a bridge-building
organization, established to deepen understanding. No participant
is involved to convert any other participant
2. We respect the sacred wisdom of each
religion, and it’s spiritual expression.
3. We respect the differences among religions
and spiritual expressions. Participants will try to speak
of their own faith perspective, leaving others to speak
of theirs
4. We encourage our members to deepen
their roots in their own tradition
5. We listen and speak with respect to
deepen mutual understanding and trust. Participants seek
to explain and demonstrate what is deeply held and revered
by them.
6. Participants will endeavour to speak
of and through their own experience and understanding and
where generalizations are unavoidable, to be honest and
as accurate as possible.
7. We encourage the giving and receiving
of hospitality to deepen friendship and understanding.
8. We seek and welcome the gift of diversity
and model practices that do not discriminate.
9. We encourage equitable participation
of women and men in all aspects of the JCMA
10. Each faith group will have equal opportunity
and exposure
11. We practice healing and reconciliation
to resolve conflict without resorting to violence
12. We act from sound ecological practices
to protect and preserve the Earth for both present and
future generations
13. We seek and offer co-operation with
other interfaith efforts.
14. We welcome as participants all individuals,
organizations and associations who subscribe to the Vision,
Aims and Objectives of the JCMA.
15. We have the right to organize in any
manner, at any scale, in any area, and around any issue
or activity which is relevant to and consistent with the
Vision, Aims and Objectives of the JCMA.
16. We maintain the highest standards
of integrity and ethical conduct, prudent use of resources,
and fair and accurate disclosure of information
17. We are committed to organizational
learning and adaptation
18. Participants will try to make sure
that any terminology used is clearly understood. If you
are unclear about a term, please ask for clarification.
Others may also be unclear. Do not feel embarrassed. There
are no stupid questions. All participants are present to
learn
19. We honor the richness and diversity
of all languages and the right and responsibility of participants
to translate and interpret the related documents in accordance
with the Vision, Aims and Objectives, and the spirit of
the JCMA.
20. Discussions will be conducted in English.
21. Participants of the JCMA and its projects
shall not be coerced to participate in any ritual or be
proselytized.
